Workshops

There are very few opportunities for local musical young people to learn from some of the leading musicians in the country.  Therefore, the Trust has developed a range of workshops to encourage children to progress their playing of orchestral instruments at a young age:

Play. Listen. Learn. Workshops
These sessions are run by some of the best international professional solo musicians from around the UK on the same weekend that they perform as part of the Trust's Recitals series. To register for the Play. Listen. Learn. workshops, simply print, complete and return the GBRT Play. Listen. Learn  Registration Form along with payment.

Play:  Each attendee brings a piece of music that they are currently working on and performs for the musician running the workshop.
Listen:  The musician will then provide direct feedback on the piece, playing style and technique.
Learn:  In addition to the specific feedback on individual pieces, the musician will provide general performance advice which will help all attendees improve their playing ability and how they perform in concerts and during examinations.

Ensemble Workshops
As an alternative to the Play. Listen. Learn. Workshops, GBRT provide Ensemble Workshops which are run by some of the best international professional ensembles from around the UK. Feedback from these highly talented musicians will include elements such as blending of tone, ensemble performance and communication between members. To register for the Ensemble Workshops, simply print, complete and return the GBRT Ensemble Workshop Registration Form along with payment.

The workshop costs £8 per attendee and this includes a complimentary ticket to the associated recital on the same weekend as the workshop. There is also the opportunity to order Recital tickets on the Registration Form too. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so please ensure you return your form as soon as possible.

Improvisation Workshops
The skill of improvisation - instant composition - is sometimes overlooked within standard instrumental teaching and can often provide a completely new lease of life and freedom to players of all standards.  Therefore, the Trust will be running a series of Improvisation Workshops, led by Lluis Mather – a versatile saxophonist who is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar, first class graduate from Birmingham Conservatoire and described as “an outstanding player….destined for a bright career in the music industry”.

These regular workshops will be funded by the Trust and open to all students in school years 7 to 13 in the Market Harborough area across the full mix of instruments.  To register for the Improvisation Workshops, simply print, complete and return the GBRT Improvisation Workshop Registration Form.

To view the dates and times of these workshops and to read the biographies of the musicians, please see the Events Calendar.
