GBRT Flute Choir

All adult flautists are warmly invited to join our GBRT Flute Choir, whether you play the flute, piccolo, alto or bass flute.

The Flute Choir play 4-8 part harmony and perform in a regular range of concerts. Repertoire includes popular classical works, West End show arrangements and new commissions.

Open to all adult flautists, you simply need to have a minimum playing standard of about Grade 5 and be able to read music fluently.

Musical Director: Joanna Preston

Born and raised in Leicestershire, Joanna began her studies on the Flute with Jenny Brooks and Leicestershire Arts in Education. Joanna continued at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she gained a First Class Honours degree and a commended Advanced PGDip Music (Professional Performance). She studied with Jonathan Rimmer, Judith Hall and Colin Lilley and received the Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Contribution. Joanna also won awards from the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Prize, Woolfsen Trust and Tillet Trust Foundation alongside being awarded a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

Joanna is in regular demand as a freelance orchestral player. She has most recently performed as Principal Flute with the London Concert Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera and the National Festival Orchestra. Joanna is a member of Trio Capriccio who perform nationally and have given a recital for a live BBC broadcast. She has also enjoyed touring the USA and Scandinavia. As a soloist, she has performed the Liebermann Flute Concerto and Mozart’s Concerto in G with orchestra.

Joanna’s portfolio of work also includes a demanding teaching schedule at the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department, the Loughborough Endowed Schools, and Leicester Grammar School


When And Where?

First, third and fifth Mondays of each month, in term time, from 7.30pm to 9pm at Langton Community Hall, Stanton Road, Church Langton, near Market Harborough. The hall has a car park on site and there is step-free access from the car park. Please bring a music stand.

What Does It Cost?

£45 per term which includes venue hire, music and tuition.

Please use the bank details on the Rehearsal Dates Schedule above to set-up a Standing Order into the GBRT account on 1st March for the summer term, 1st July for the autumn term and 1st November for the spring term.
